Kaolin is both Kaolinite

Kaolin is a non-metallic mineral deposit, which is a kind of clay and clay rock dominated by Kaolinite group clay mineral deposits. The second is the different uses. Porcelain clay is generally used for manufacturing daily ceramics, building and sanitary ceramics, electric ceramics, and special ceramics, while kaolin is used for papermaking, ceramics, refractory materials, coatings, pigments, and so on

Kaolin refers to the clay whose main mineral deposit type is Kaolinite. The Molecular formula of Kaolinite is Al2O3 · 2SiO2 · 2H2O, in which Al2O3: 39.53%, SiO2: 46.51%, and H2O: 13.96%. Its name comes from the discovery of very pure kaolin in Gaoling Village, Jingdezhen. Therefore, this ceramic material is a high aluminum and low silicon type material. This type of kaolin is called native kaolin. But using kaolin to make porcelain was not the beginning of Jingdezhen. In fact, the earliest use of kaolin in porcelain production originated from northern China, especially the early white porcelain, such as Xing kiln, Gongxian kiln, Ding kiln, etc. Its porcelain clay is locally known as crucible clay, which is actually a highly pure sedimentary kaolin, also known as secondary kaolin.

Kaolin is weathered Kaolinite, and Kaolinite does have its name, so Kaolinite and porcelain stone cannot be compared. The question of binary formulas still requires a clear and scientific answer.

What kind of rock is Kaolinite? If you want to make porcelain, can you use ground Kaolinite? I found that Kaolinite/clay is used to make zinc distillation retort, but this material contains high flux composition.
